FAQ

1How should I transport my cake?
Please ensure you have a flat surface large enough to accommodate the size board your cake will be sitting on (which is typically 2-4 inches wider than ordered cake). If the only space available is in a car seat, a flat surface may be created by placing a rolled up towel in the incline area, and placing a non-slip gripper mat is highly recommended.
2 Can you recreate a cake I find elsewhere?
We have talented artists that can recreate almost anything you find online! We do, however, have certain restrictions when it comes to copyright issues with certain brands. Also keep in mind that results can vary, depending on size differences ordered versus what may have been used in your inspiration picture. Please feel free to fill out our inquire form.
3Does my cake need to be refrigerated?
If you are picking your cake up the day before the event, it is suggested to refrigerate your cake-especially if your cake still needs to be transported (a cold cake is more stable for transport). We use real milk, butter, and eggs and it is important for those to stay fresh. It is best to pull your cake out of the fridge at least 2-3 hours before the event. We feel our cakes are best enjoyed at room temperature. If your cake contains fresh fruit or pastry cream(s), please be sure to refrigerate until time of serving, regardless.
4Do you charge sales tax on your cakes?
We do not charge tax on our cakes.
5Do I have to schedule an appointment in order to book my cake?
Not necessarily. If you know what you want with regard to flavor and design, fill out inquire form and we can consult with you over the phone or via email.
6How far in advance do I need to order my cake?
We recommend at least 2-4 weeks advance notice for the best option of availability. We often fill up very quickly, but if you need a cake sooner, please check with us anyway to see if we have a spot open on our calendar. If your cake does not require a lot of custom detail, we can often accommodate your request fairly quickly.
7How much are your cakes?
Since we are a custom bakery, our final cake price is based on a number of factors mostly pertaining to serving size and design. Please refer to our pricing chart for starting prices; once we have all your details in place, we can provide you with a quote.
8How tall are your cakes?
Our standard cakes are between 4 to 5 inches tall. We can add more height for a minimal charge.
9How do I cut my cake to ensure we get the servings we asked for?
We have cutting guides available upon request.
10What is the difference between American Buttercream and Swiss Meringue Buttercream?
American Buttercream is what is most often in America refer to simply as “buttercream,” and it is the icing we most often use. It has great stability for the more detailed artwork. However, in Europe, buttercream is typically a much softer, silkier and less sweet icing. Many consider this the more elite icing and requires a cooking stage and more skill to create. Swiss Meringue Buttercream does not hold up well in outdoor Houston heat, but would be a great choice in multiple designs indoors. Swiss Meringue Buttercream is similar in texture to Italian Buttercream. No matter which buttercream you choose, they are both delicious!
11Can fondant be avoided?
Most fondant covered cakes can be covered in buttercream instead, and we are quite skilled in getting a very smooth, polished look. But if you choose to add fondant, please keep in mind that there will still be plenty of buttercream underneath to enjoy (although our fondant actually tastes good)!
12Do you offer samples?
We offer a variety of cake flavors sold by the slice every day. If you are looking for a smaller trial size, please set up an order with our bakery for 3” test taste cakes for a minimal charge.
13Do you deliver?
No, we do not deliver at this time.
14What if I need to cancel my order?
In the event you need to cancel your order, fill out our inquire form at least 3 days in advance. All cancellations must be done in writing.
15What makes your cakes different?
We pride ourselves on fresh, scratch made goods that are meant to remind you of the good old days! We believe in digging into the source of authenticity for traditional flavors. Not only do they taste great, but we also have a very talented group of decorators that can create the perfect centerpiece for your event!
16What if I need a cake for today or tomorrow?
We often stay booked for several weeks in advance and can only accommodate certain cakes in such a short notice. We keep in stock 6” and 8” rounds, and flavors vary. We can often assemble/ice a cake within a few hours if we have the available flavor in stock, depending on availability of a decorator. Our bakers and decorators also strive to maintain a good variety of several decorated cakes in our display case and are available on a first come, first serve basis. To reserve a cake from our case via phone, we can accept payment over the phone and secure your cake until you can feasibly arrive to pick it up. Please give our store a call and see what we have available.
17Can you write on my cake?
Yes, we can hand pipe what you’d like written on any cake, provided there is adequate space available.
18What are your payment methods?
We take cash and all major credit cards.
19What are your consultation hours?
We usually have a decorator available Monday-Friday from 6:00am-8:00 am and 10:30 am-2:00 pm. For walk in consultations, please ask for a baker to take your contact information and you will be contacted within 24 hours.
20Do you charge for consultations?
Our consultations are complimentary, but we do ask that appointments are set for consultations, if possible.
21Do you ship cakes?
We do not ship cakes, due to spoilage and damage risk.
22Do you cater to special diets and allergies?
We understand that there are specific dietary needs and try, to the best of our ability, to provide options for those with certain restrictions. Because our kitchen offers several varieties of baked goods, we cannot assure you that our kitchen is allergen contact free from items such as peanuts, tree nuts, gluten, dairy, etc. At the request of clients, our bakery has been able to substitute normal flour with gluten free flour without compromising the delicious taste our cakes offer!
23Can you place fresh flowers on my cake?
If the customer can provide the flowers to us one day in advance, we are happy to place them. However, please be aware that not all flowers are food safe. Please check with your florist for safe recommendations.
